The 10th Purley Guides were thrilled at the news of Bear Grylls being appointed chief scout. So thrilled in fact we decided to introduce them to some basic survival training.

Under expert guidance of ex special forces instructors, the Girl Guides learned how to build shelters, light fires without matches, navigate by sun and stars, forage for water and food.

Obviously some aspects of the training were not appropriate for girls of their age, but they still came away with a good basic understanding and had a fantastic time to boot!
